About Me

Education

I grew up in Oakwood, Ohio and went to Oakwood High School. During high school, I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus Exam and a 5 on the AP Chemistry Exam. I graduated in 2013 with a 3.9 GPA.

I attended the University of Tampa (UT) and majored in mathematics and minored in chemistry. While I was at UT, I served as President of the National Mathematics Honor Society (Pi Mu Epsilon), Vice President of Math Club, and Reporter of the Professional Chemistry Fraternity (Alpha Chi Sigma). I was also a member of the National Leadership Honor Society (Omicron Delta Kappa), the Academic Honor Society (Delta Epsilon Iota), and the UT Honors Program.

During my final semester, I conducted a research project on the math and physics behind Kepler’s laws of planetary motion and presented this research to the UT mathematics faculty and students. I was awarded the Outstanding Award in Mathematics, which is the only award that the UT Mathematics Department offers.

I graduated from UT in May 2016 with a GPA of 3.7. I received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry and I was able to graduate in just 3 years.

Tutoring Experience

I worked at a math tutoring center while I was in college and tutored students in 1st through 12th grade. In my spare time, I also tutored college students in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus for Business, and Calculus I.

After I graduated from UT, I got a full-time job at a car dealership but I didn't want to give up on my passion for math. In 2017, I started a sole proprietorship as an independent math tutor so I could help students succeed in math. As that became successful, I quit my job at the car dealership and pursued math tutoring full-time. I discovered all the fun and freedom that comes with running my own business, so in 2018 I decided to take it a step further and create Empowered Mathematics, LLC.

In starting a business in math tutoring, I've created my own dream job because I get to do what I love and I can see the impact I have on students' lives. It's rewarding to see students who have always struggled with math make connections between concepts and get excited to keep learning. I've helped students who never thought they could excel in math raise their grades significantly and it has transformed the way they view math.

Another aspect that I love about tutoring is that it allows me to be a mentor to students. I enjoy getting to know students on a personal level and giving them advice about school or life in general. Many students find it beneficial to have someone who can give them insight about starting high school or college, deciding which classes to take, and choosing a career path that suits them.

Fun Facts

I love going to concerts and I’ve seen over 200 bands so far. Some of my favorite bands are Third Eye Blind, Tonight Alive, blink-182, Less Than Jake, Anti-Flag, Neck Deep, State Champs, A Day To Remember, All Time Low, Billy Talent, Linkin Park, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

One of my favorite quotes is: “Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want” -Anna Lappé. I keep this quote in mind every time I shop because I strive to purchase goods that minimize waste in their production and packaging, are made from sustainable materials, and are neither derived from animals nor contribute to the harm of animals.  I shop from small businesses as much as possible and I like to make sure that the items I purchase come from companies with good working conditions and wages for their employees. Sometimes it can be hard to find things that encompass all these ideals, but every small step towards ethical consumerism makes a difference.

Because I love to challenge myself to minimize my impact on the environment, I've chosen not to have a car. I got my driver's license when I was 18 because I never considered the alternatives to driving, but in April 2017 I decided to sell my car and I haven't driven since then. Now, I enjoy riding my bike, walking, or taking the bus wherever I go and it's surprisingly more convenient than I expected it to be. Also, I save hundreds of dollars each month by not having a car.
