I tutor all levels of math, from elementary school through college. I also tutor adults who want to strengthen their math skills. All sessions are 1-on-1.
I provide homework help for the following subjects (including college):
◆ Elementary Math
◆ Algebra I and II
◆ AP Calculus
◆ Calculus I
During these sessions, I explain step-by-step how to solve math problems and prepare students for upcoming tests. I also give supplemental problems and worksheets that go along with what is being taught in class. I believe that it’s critical for students to gain independence with problem-solving and get to the point where they can work through entire problems without any guidance. Once students reach this level of confidence and independence, they begin to excel on quizzes and tests.
I offer preparation and study skills for the math sections of the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GED. To prepare for these tests, I recommend that students obtain a test prep book that includes a variety of problems that resemble actual test questions. During these sessions, I help students work through practice problems, review important math concepts, and give strategies for getting a higher score. My recommended book for each test is listed below:
500 New SAT Math Problems Arranged by Topic and Difficulty Level by Dr. Steve Warner
Ultimate Guide to the Math ACT by Richard F. Corn
Official GRE Quantitative Reasoning Practice Questions, Second Edition, Volume 1 by ETS
GED Math Preparation 2018 by Test Prep Books
These books are solely for the math section of each test, but other books are available that include preparation for all sections. Students may bring their own book or we can use one that I provide. Although it is not required for students to have a test prep book, it is helpful for them to have their own copy to review the problems at home.
In order to help students retain the math knowledge that they learned during the school year and give them a head start for the fall, I offer summer enrichment. These sessions are individualized for each student and include:
◆ Review of concepts from the previous school year as needed
◆ Introduction to new material for the upcoming school year
In the summer, it’s important for students to spend a similar amount of time on math in order to retain and expand on their knowledge and mathematical abilities.
For adults who use math in their career or who want to refresh their math abilities for everyday life scenarios, math skills sessions are the perfect option. You'll learn how to quickly perform certain mathematical operations, such as:
◆ Calculating percentages
◆ Determining ratios
◆ Analyzing graphs
◆ Estimating time
◆ Converting measurements
These sessions are suited for adults of all ages and skill levels. Depending on your career or desired knowledge, these sessions will be tailored to your specific requests.
